The Summer 2008 issue of The Fretboard Journal is set to be mailed to subscribers next week, with a cover feature on Chris Thile. The piece is an interview, conducted by fellow mandolin trailblazer David Grisman, who graced the cover of the inaugural issue of the magazine in 2005.
Also profiled in this issue is resonator guitarist Jerry Douglas, and a lengthy interview with noted guitar builder Jean Larrivee is included as well.
We have spoken highly of this glossy, full color quarterly in the past for its use of heavy, archival-quality paper and for the excellence of the writing and photography.

We'll hear a cut from Sam Baker's first album Mercy this morning called "Change".
Baker is an incredible songwriter from Itaska, TX and brings an incredible story to the show. In 1986 when he was traveling on a train in Peru, a terrorist bomb exploded and Baker lost most of his hearing and suffered serious injuries to his left arm. He had 18 corrective surgeries over the next decade and the consequent physical, emotional, and spiritual journey shaped his view of the world and ultimately his music. Baker had to completely relearn how to play the guitar with his mangled left hand, and singing was extremely difficult for him because of his severe hearing loss, but he overcame these obstacles to develop his uniquely hushed and quietly powerful performance style.
The new Infamous Stringdusters album hits the shelves on June 10 but we are featuring 10 cuts from the album this morning on The Front Porch. The Infamous Stringdusters are currently on tour in Europe so a live interview isn't a possibility. I will try and collect as much information as possible right here for you to explore.
After the immensely popular debut "Fork in the Road"and with all of the awards and accolades poured on these guys, the bar of expectation left only the sun and clouds as a backdrop. With the sophomore, self-titled release The Stringdusters have matched the hype with yet another top-notch project.
This is the first album without Chris "Critter" Eldridge (Now a Punch Brother) in the lineup on guitar. Replacing Eldridge is Andy Falco who has worked with Alecia Nugent, The Greencards, Vanessa Carlton and Levon Helm (The Band). Falco takes no backseat here and the instrumentation is still the signature of the band as the instrumentals on this album are as good as it gets in modern bluegrass. The vocals here can be a bit flat and forced in a few spots but mostly they work very well and overall this is yet another incredible release from a great band. The album flows well and you will find many enjoyable hours spent with this release!

I spoke with Nathan Lynn this morning from Bawn in the Mash and he informed me that they guys are working on a new album. There is no release date as of yet but stay tuned!
A great lineup of bands at Kenlake State Resort Park for this years Kentucky Lake Bluegrass Festival. Come spend a weekend in our region and catch some great bluegrass music. Nearby Land Between The Lakes provides plenty of camping with rooms also available at Kenlake State Resort Park and Lake Barkley State Resort Park. The backdrop for the fest is beautiful Kentucky Lake which provides plenty of room for water activities.
Yeah... that's correct! Friday, November 7 The Del McCoury Band will be onstage at Lovett Auditorium in Murray, KY. Another collaborative effort between Lovett Live and WKMS brings yet another incredible national act to our region. More information to follow!
